Neighbours campaign to save Oakfield rec from housing
The Rugby Advertiser covers our campaign.
Concerned residents and councillors have teamed up to fight a proposal to build houses on their village park.
Oakfield Recreation Ground, in Bilton Road, has been earmarked for 62 houses.
Rugby Borough Council leased the land, owned by the Heart of England Co-operative Society, for around 30 years until last year, when the lease expired.
The Co-op refused the council’s request to extend the lease and has not responded to the council’s subsequent offer to buy the land – fuelling concerns over the future of the park.
A ‘Save Oakfield’ group has been formed and members have delivered 700 flyers to people living in the area.
